Hi All,
At our meeting this morning, we resolved to press on with A Pilot Professional Exam for a small group of people who could validate it, and perhaps get the Pilot Credential.
I cc @Andrey_Malakhov, @OdetteB and @Alex_Shapley as I have included you in discussions this far – but I’ve not heard affirmative or negative as to whether you want to be involved?
There is a lot of discussion in this thread
The Exam spec created by Simon is here:
Level 3 Exam Outline
Reading through – WRT examiners – we don’t yet have approved examiners – we agree in this instance that this group can be approved examiners.
I believe we should each have at least done the Associate Exam - BIG Associates Comprehension Exam Level 1 (not everyone has)

This implies that the candidate can bring an example which we can (with agreement) add to the example pool we mentioned this morning.
A key issue for many of us is that there are few of us that have used all the BIG BoK – and many of us have done BIG stuff before the BoK was created. So I believe (Chris mentioned this) that “we can assess integrated governance in organisations whether or not they used BIG expressly to get there, and that this is value that the CIC can build and use to boost credibility and interest/recognition.”
Simon made a good point that half of BIG is providing a “shared model of the components and the processes within the heads of those who need to apply it.”
Perhaps we can kill 2 birds with one stone?
Looking at the conversation in the Discussion Thread – half of the capability we need to verify (?) is that the candidate can engage stakeholders, capture situation, devise vision and roadmap, and support delivery. I I would suggest that looking evidence of that on a CV should be part of the assessment. Perhaps Also we are looking for evidence of subject matter knowledge – perhaps via exam credentials (although I’d not be able to stipulate on that suggestion!)
As an alternative for this moment- perhaps we can ask people to present findings from a Readiness Assessment they have done with an organisation. We can at least capture that “the examinee has understood what changes they need to make to improve ‘BIG maturity’”
This could have been on a professional basis or as an observer. This could include:
Background to the assessment
Adaption needed
Analysis of results gathered
Presentation of “As is”
Recommendation of “To be”
Roadmap proposed
Status
I think demonstrating benefits / sustainment is not possible presently – but will be eventually.
Perhaps we could even call for Member organisations and possible Commercial Partners to support the group in providing themselves as subjects for analysis?
CALLS TO ACTION
- People confirm or deny they what to be involved in doing / assessing this Pilot process
- People read and comment on the Level 3 Exam Outline
- People make their comments in the discussion thread by the end of this week (please keep comments related to the Exam)
- Simon updates the Level 3 Exam Outline – and we agree it NEXT week
- Those who want to engage in the pilot say when they can be ready by – and we schedule candidate and 4 examiners
Shall we crack on?
