Hi All,
@Veronica @ChrisB and @DannyW hooked up this morning and we rolled the ball on some more about the contents of a conference.
The conference will be on line. It is taking shape and is up to speakers to help shape it. We are pondering formats - and these were the ponderings I noted (please others chip in):
We are assuming that unlike one of webinar attendees, we assume that conference attendees will be informed about BIG - if nothing more than to justify their time and expense.
In any scenario - we would intro the event, and position BIG. We would then plug in the meat of the day - then wrap to ensure our audience has been informed (though content which explains), enabled (though content that discusses an engagement approach for stakeholders like us) and inspired (because we can see the opportunity in ourselves and fellow attendees - and we realise how to take BIG further)
So to the meat.
These are developing ideas.
Possible Content types
a. One way Presentation - one way delivery. I think we feel this should be limited to intro and wrap up
b. Mixed present and group feedback - this gives to the audience, and collects content we can play back / develop with
c. Mixed present and private capture - enables the audience to think and apply, with some space for Q&A - I think this is outside conference and is workshop / consulting - but lets discuss.
d, Panel Discussion with audience questions - this could be useful in conclusion
Idea 1. Is to focus on the BIG Journey – This is more workshop / collaborate than present. This is how I read the story.
Step 1 is to kick off with a group readiness assessment - where we use the readiness model to go through BIG principles and enable attendees to rate themselves - identifying areas which are good and bad. We can aggregate the conference view. Type b.
But so what? Diagnosis gathered, what is the cure? - Type a.
- We can then overview the components
- but we feel we need to introduce accountability map to help our protagonists with scoping areas of the organisation to receive focus…
- and this must go hand in hand with the strategy information model the accountability map exists to serve.
Deeper dive ideas - I think these are Type b.
- Do you have a clear SIM, and does that relate to a clear accountability map?
- Do you operate accountability - introduce the Accountability node?
With the 2 above - we discussed doing some Type c stuff that people could take away. Am yet not convinced about that. That level is outside conference scope for me.
- how should you prioritise to establish fair accountability? - can we offer a solution?
- Is your information and data capability suitable? Can we offer a definition?
- do you have the support function to enable this to happen - can we present a proposal?
- where is this to be led from? COO?
These are all good stimulators
But how on earth do I get this in the exec agenda from my position? - Type b
- discuss what position we each hold in the organisation
- discuss the challenges related to raising perception of need
- realism about influence sphere and ability to generate appetite
- discussion of strategic (i.e. I can vision and roadmap) vs tactical solution (i.e. I can fix aspects of my situation)
This would leave the attendee informed about BIG, inspired that they can do something, and equipped to engage their organisation.
Idea 2. Is to focus on proof points / experiences with the why, what and how. This is ‘present’ – but with perhaps 2 formats – one format is the 5 minute quick talk on what someone has done, the other is the 30-45 min deep dive with questions .
We have a few people ready for the deep dive having done our Pilot Professional Exam – which is in essence a deep dive presentation(s) + Q&A on an integrated governance situation a candidate has had a role in addressing. But lets be real about how many of us will be able to surface our content.
Idea 3 - presentation and discussion for commercial partners. If we can get them together - this can happen sometime during the conference in a stream
Idea 4. Is to provide attendees with a library of recordings of podcast type content what professional / commercial partners would like to provide – but there isn’t time in a conference day to present it live. Example use might be for commercial partner to reference their solution of offering in a main session to enable the audience to see the goods - but not in a main conference session.
Idea 5. To offer a day 2 which is slots for commercial partners to present exactly what they want. If not done live, they could be pre recorded and played on a schedule - and added to a library of recordings
Idea 6. We also thought about offering a group slot for people to take the Associate Exam and provide feedback on common issues, and maybe even offer top 3 pass certificates. We have thought about enabling people to book slots to do their Professional Exam in the run up to the Conference, or a limited few on day 2.
We have to bear in mind that we are worried at the moment about Day 1.
We also have to discuss timezone coverage. We can open the conference to Aus NZ – with availability of overnight content the next morning, or invite some people in Aus NZ to offer / promote Aus / NZ delivered live sessions…?
Best,
DD
