Website - Graphical User Interface

HI All,
the BoK Is currently based off an index. There is currently no visual which brings the index to life.
Other frameworks provide a GUI to enable people who are less included to read to engage with the content.

We have lots of Graphics – maybe it would be quick to provide a visual index as opposed to a textual one?

Would anyone be able to pick this up?

I’ve done (am doing, slowly) a graphical version of ‘my’ take on the whole - my current draft is at https://logicalmodel.net/OrgAgility

Best to select “View in browser” when asked how to launch & if on a phone maybe select Desktop site from the BROWSER’S options

later I’ll search for a forum extension to open links in target=_blank

simon there’s going to be a killer image, probably a flow diagram, that’s the one for the front page. With some buttons and boxes around it, like SAFe

After we have the image, we should do some internal User Experience Testing. i.e. 30 minutes asking a person new to the image questions and seeing how they engage with it.

I’m happy to construct the UX experiment, if you can find someone to test on!

I haven’t look at SAFe since they had a similar diagram probably at release 4. Giving it to a graphic artist to tidy up hasn’t removed its weakness imho
My problem with these documents ( even the safe 6 one) Is that they are excellent summaries for somebody who already holds expert level knowledge. They are close to impenetrable for anyone who is coming to the topic as a novice even if expert in the general field.

This is based on 20 plus years of training people in portfolios programs and projects as a holistic discipline.

Hmmm everything SAFe gets a pretty mixed reaction So I hope your analogy is merely “as inspired by the diagram” rather than inspired by the concepts because I see BIG entirely permissive and agnostic about how one achieves strategic goals and what those goals should be which is entirely unlike safe which is prescriptive of so much (even one’s thinking ¿ : 😂🤔 )

If we had a community here it’d simply be a case of “put a link in a post …” - even without the buzz of a vibrant community I still suggest that as a component of the pathways to generating awareness and interest

Not sure what you’re suggesting. If you’re referring to the 17th slide of what I’ve put together the 17th slide is links to the other 16 and have to remain so get that document is to maintain its integrity 🙂.

I have a mind that there should be a few more slides in that deck - It’s a overview of more complete coverage in https://logicalmodel.net/OrgAgility (Which isn’t finished and may stay unfinished till the summer is over : 😭 😂 )

This still causes my concern because it starts with the word pain which I posted about before

I suggest one of the strengths of BIG is that it is not prescriptive. one of the strengths of propagating the message should be that we don’t assume a single approach to explaining it is somehow right for everyone.

Therefore I encourage you to create your killer diagram but not to position it as THE explanation merely An explanation.

p.s. this could be it, albeit with some tweaks i.e.

Make principles one button, loose the sub-points. Do the same with Models, Methods, Components,
Keep the lIfecycle
Add something else, a vertical element. The old Strategy Triangle (governance view) gets my vote.

Hi All, I have a day off and then loads of chat breaks out :-)

WRT pains or gains - you can use both / either.
Psychology (especially behavioral economics) shows that humans are wired to avoid pain more urgently than they seek gain.
Loss aversion: People feel the pain of losing something about 2x more strongly than the pleasure of gaining something of equal value.
So if you’re explaining a situation and want maximum engagement, pain-first messaging is usually more effective.
But — there’s a split:
About 70–80% of people respond more to pain framing.
About 20–30% are gain-focused, especially optimistic, entrepreneurial types, or those in a good place emotionally.
Also, context matters:
If things are going badly (market downturn, crisis, etc.) = pain framing is even stronger.
If things are good (growth phase, innovation) = gain framing works better.
Tactical suggestion:
Hook with the pain: “Here’s the problem / risk / threat if we don’t act…”
Shift to the gain: “And here’s the opportunity / upside if we solve it.”
This way you get the urgency plus the inspiration. That is what I do.

After years of this - I cannot offer you one killer diagram - as the subject is large and most people react better to a diagram tailored to their situation / perspective. This is why is is so hard to create a central web page. If I had ore time, I would do more theme specific stuff - https://big-cic.org.uk/what-is-big/strategic-themes/

I would welcome creating a library of images which includes the creativity from many. I would create an image that makes sense to you @Greg_Krawczyk - from your perspective - and please add it to the mix - we could create a carousel like on the home page.
