The BIG BoK is is currently available on the BIG Website
- It is introduced here
- It is chopped up into chapters here with an accordion style public version.
There are 2 (+?) issues with the BoK
- There is no single document download - The intent was to create a version of the BoK with enhancements for sale in Amazon - to make some cash. This was prepped - but not completed.
- It is currently available to members only. This requires completion of a form - https://big-cic.org.uk/register/member-big-cic/
It is proposed that needing to provide credentials to access the BoK is a barrier to uptake. It is proposed that the BoK be made available on the website requiring no information from people. The proposition is that this will lead to more downloads, and that by editing the BoK to include links to the BIG Website, usage of the BoK and interaction with the BIG CIC and partners would increase.
This approach has possible drawbacks:
Without data on download / members - we can’t demonstrate our community to Partners with the data collected - this is a real issue, we need to do it.
Member growth is a key metric with respect to anyone bothering to be involved
We can’t contact people with respect to sharing news and even seeking donation if we dont have some data
A lot of effort has gone into provide high level content to taste the goods to build desire to download all of it
Our history and credentials are public - this is clearly not a scam, and our privacy policy is clear about protecting data. If people can’t trust us - they can go away.
We do not know that providing contact data is a barrier to people downloading the BoK - that is speculation. Perhaps we can test the hypothesis - perhaps I’m wrong?
Is there really much difference in asking people to join the community and become a member. Saying providing email to become a member is too hard while requiring it to be in the community does not compute at all. I suggest merging them.
I don’t see solutions to my concerns without collecting some data….
