Revenue Ideas

Hi All

we currently have 3 means to cover our costs / collect funds

We will be developing messaging for partners who can benefit from the BIG BoK - and be looking for their support to fund us.

We also have some “Merch” in progress - @Alex_Shapley and @Veronica in progress - watch this space!!

Do you have some ideas for us? Can you help?

I think the best revenue source in the long term will be to creditialise organizations

I’ve précis-ed how I think that would work in posts elsewhere on the forum. I’ve also suggested tiered levels of credentialization for individuals that we charge for as 3 levels.
While we cannot do the middle tear without a lot of work i have already put in place everything needed to start doing the first and third tier.

There would be mutually beneficial results from grandfathering people in at the most senior level of the hierarchy.

With credentializing organisations we create a pull demand from them to have a critical mass of their staff competent (well knowledgeable at least) - so we drive business towards training partners & consultants which then starts to be a symbiotic relationship for all three parties: Knowledge Producers and Knowledge Distributors/ Interpetors and Knowledge User

Symbiosis means all players can see a clear What’s In It For Me,and Who do I serve and Who am I dependant upon.

It may have slipped my attention but I believe when I suggested creating a clear model of the what’s in its for me You said you already had a draft that you would publish.

Can I suggest that given the time that’s passed any tidying up you were going to do is after publishing it as it’s currently stands and then everybody can offer tidy ups or possibly even their alternate view.

We all should be structuring things so that you are not overburdened nor a bottleneck 🙂
With that suggestion I think it follows that you need a cadence of progress checking with clarification about how decisions are taken that are wider than one person. In theory each identified work stream had some people who were going to progress it individually. I have seen no evidence of any workstream except MERCH moving anywhere and that only today.

Perhaps time to question the gap between intent and delivery 🙂

I can agree that some way down the line BIG can get organisations seeking credentials and certification.

I do think that is at least 3 years from now, but probably closer to 5 even in today’s fast moving world.

What do we need to do to get there? I think it is the following, but hope others can add options here:

get organisations implementing and using ‘integrated governance’ for 2 reasons - firstly to gather real life stories to provide authenticity and credibility to BIG - secondly to allow the CIC to improve BIG content and guidelines as we learn what works in practice and what doesn’t
get partners working on 1. above in whatever way interests their clients with the least amount of effort and bureaucracy as possible - i.e. simple agreements that require very little administration and very little risk for either party
recognise that BIG is really integrated governance and is not one or other of strategy delivery, P3M, BAU, product management or anything else, even though it will contribute significantly to all of these. This goes back to point 2 above - partners should be able to sell and implement this with whatever perspective or framing makes sense to them and their clients in the moment, and whatever agreements set up should work seamlessly and simply across any and all perspectives, and services. I am sure that we will all change our approach to offering these services, and which services we offer, over time and across different clients, so let’s cater for this and acknowledge it from the beginning - i.e. don’t limit this flexibility and learning by having agreements and recognitions focused on one or the other service or perspective. If I am implementing BIG in a client I am sure they will need training in one form or another, as well as a varying range of services based on their current practices, governance maturity, strategy, culture, purpose, etc. - I don’t want to first modify my agreement with the CIC before I suggest something different to help a client with an unanticipated need, or trust that I can negotiate a suitable change to my contract with CIC afterwards.
Make it interesting for partners to contribute content to the CIC, whatever that is, so that they don’t only publish it in their own web pages or documents. I think the drive to share conferences, webinars, blogs is part of this, but I wonder if we can find something more than this? I think this could be data gathered from assessments and implementations and operations that help give both BIG and partners credibility and valuable knowledge in ways they cannot match if they don’t share their data. I am thinking here in terms of a data trust such as Martin Paver did with construction firms data.

I’m sure there used to be or maybe still is a Gartner membership where members had access to all other members experience it was mega expensive and only affordable to multinational types…

Can you be explicit about the distinctions?

My current mental model runs:

every organisation is a collection of assets/ capital
mission and values plus global context equal vision equals portfolio comprised 100% of the organisation along all of the dimensions of relevance
some elements of vision are supported by the current asset base and operate cyclically to generate revenues
some elements of vision are options waiting for a trigger
others are elements of change the organisation that will in the ‘short’ term modify the current asset base and so modify the current business as usual / RtO

The whole of the above can be labelled as Strategy that is in the fullness of consideration and time is ‘delivered’
