Why do we require membership before access to the BoK

To access the Body Of Knowledge on the big CIC website requires a sign in.

What is the justification of imposing that cost on those with desire to slake their thirst for knowledge?

I posit that imposing a cost before value is received (and before trust is earned) is reducing not enhancing BIG’s objectives/cause

I propose removing what is in fact a pay wall
Anybody wish to second or too offer refutations

simon I share a concern that this may be an impediment. I also however feel that it is a minimum commitment to test the level of interest and intent of people who want to access the BIG knowledge. I confess I don’t know whether this a sensible balance or not, but I think it allows us to get a more credible measure of level of interest by those who visit the site. If this can be done via some useful criteria from web analytics instead of a registration, then I would suggest we drop the registration as a prerequisite.

The rationale behind establishing a membership is to build evidence to partners, sponsors and professional bodies that the BoK is of interest to people.
Gathering email also enables push communication with our stakeholders, and the ability to engage them in our purpose.
Furthermore - there is a lot of content accessible to non members - which is value received at no cost. Also - the cost of accessing the full material is some basic personal data and the promise to engage people in something they have expressed an interest in - hardly a cost, and not a pay wall as there is no pay.
What exists is a balance.
The contrary question I would put is - how do we drive our membership in the future - as at present the only person seemingly doing it is me. I think the issue is driving membership - not doing away with it.

First it very definitely is a pay-wall and a high one, loaded with the characteristics that all of the most suspicious ones have.
It requires trust in an arena full of bad actors promising something for seemingly nothing.

That’s why people are very cautious with their seemingly nothing.

A sign-up has caused the judgement of engagement to be reduced (seemingly?) to a single metric?
¿One whose other factors are distorting ability to use it for much (anything?).

An alternative (may be) Tracking IP addresses from those who visit for: Number of visits, Length of visit, Organisational or geographic location of visitor (etc?) would give us much better visibility of the interest we are generating¿?

On the “I’m the only one”: I’ve said multiple times “I’ll do some” - I don’t know if you think that conversation has been bottomed out? I don’t feel that was any agreement on actions etc equally there wasn’t any disagreement. With this creating this forum I’ve taken action 🙂 I’ll continue taking action 🤡 that’s publicly visible and I’ll co-ordinate it with any & all as folk step-up to take actions & fill roles that need coordination efforts 🙂

I think growing membership will come from those who feel they want to contribute to the discussions and they will do that because they have gained a trust that this is a safe place for serious discussion 🙂

A few points:

There has been limited marketing of the BOK - I think it needs more direct promotion
This needs engagement with professional bodies, and many partners (large and small)
The amount of actual activity has been a lot of effort from me - that is just me - and that is not actually a lot at all. I can only shout so loud
I think awareness and demand needs to be generated - all else can follow
Who will support awareness and demand so that this can lurch forwards? If there is no answer to that - the rest is irrelevant
The goods are on display - perhaps there is too much on display as people think they have enough from the knowledge outline?? No need to join?
I think there is more reason to become a member to access content than join a discussion forum - but you can do both.
The stats you mention are not alternates, they are valid metrics in their own right
The session yesterday was comms / engagement - there is another one tomorrow. The actions are emerging and the next steps will present themselves after session 2 - who wants to play on the purpose, vision and workloads involved - for the benefits they can see for themselves (I’m not going to spell it out to people - that is a filter!). We can of course welcome people to chip in and use the community - but things need doing to drive forwards too.
