BIG Goals

What should the Goals for the BIG CIC include next? So far, the approach has been:

Step 1 – Get the BIG CIC Launched – COMPLETED
Step 2 – Get the BIG CIC Operational – this is the Phase the BIG CIC is entering where there is a group of leaders that drive the BIG CIC
Step 3 – Make it self sufficient – once Operational, can the leaders may it a self financing, stand alone, not for profit organisation?

Assuming the BIG CIC is entering Step 2 –

what should the purpose become? (see separate post)
what should the vision be? (see separate post)

what goals should the CIC set for which timeframes?

DD I am not sure we need timeframes if we have a set of steps within a plan for each objective.
We can assign timeframes for each task, but I suspect that attempting to set overall times, and define all dependencies bar the obvious, will be an exercise in time wasting.

Let’s just start at the beginning for Step 2 and Step 3 and get it done, step by step. Steps 2 and 3 should be running in parallel anyway - if we are not looking at sustainable (Step 3) answers for Step 2 why are we doing them anyway?

I think it will help if we can brainstorm a few goal statements which come at BIG from different perspectives and then become themes / campaigns we do with professional groups / partners.

I think there are some which are easier than others. On the examples above

We can start by positioning it as a means to put PAS 808 into force and operating against it.
IMO that needs a champion, probably connection to a professional body, and a partner (or 2)

That seems to me to be four suggestions for debate that I have made so far 🙂

And / BUT …
… I’m wondering about the theme that you have had running inBIG Purpose, Vision and Goals of whether or not BIG has an evolutionary step to take (?)

Eg is the target to set out

How to HOLISTICALLY run organisations
or
How to feed strategy into operations
Or How to Integrate Governance through our everthing
(the wise decision making type of G~ rather than the bureaucratic checking the rules were followed type)?

And maybe it’s different things for different people at different times?

I think I’d have to say at the moment BIG is a preliminary descriptive framework of most of the factors that need consideration to operate a business across product & change (projects) mostly optimally .

I think BIG is light on topic of tone or culture - the “culture eats strategy for breakfast” bit.

BIG is light on change’s impacts & curation- project is one (minor?) of many strands needed on the change side of strategy and tactics

So I think BIG today could be described as an excellent step on a journey that has a way to go, that some folk are beginning to grasp the breadth of and many don’t yet have that awareness…

I put a few further up one of which you’ve already quoted.

Others I’ve Previously suggested are things such as

We should offer a credential for Organisations that attests to there commitment and capability to align their actions to their strategy and their strategy in ongoing development of abilities matched to evolving opportunity and threat and definition of stakeholder value. That qualification could then be an indicator to the investment market of capital efficiency & investment risk. Granting of the credential would be on the basis of number of individuals in significant roles holding individual credentials at level 3 professional assessment

Expanding scope into the not-for-profit sectors with an emphasis on ethical and PAS 808 priorities

I think we need a ‘Purpose’ rather than a goal or a vision.

I agree with Simon that this should be to do with PAS808 (and ISO 37000/37011) and be something along the lines of:
“Facilitating (or Driving?) adoption of purpose (as per PAS 808) driven governance in organisations”

Then we can break this down into a number of objectives (Ends, Means and Methods?) addressing Worldviews, Principles and Behaviours that these Objectives seek to implement.

I see this as largely a repackaging of current goals but with that added objective of getting organisations adopt purpose driven governance on a progressive basis i.e. if they adopt one Worldview or Principle it is a success story for us. As we say currently in the implementation of BIG you can start small and then expand governance to other nodes.

What are our goals, and what should our measures be?

The BIG CIC is completely voluntary, but to grow the BoK and share the messaging we must engage partners - and to do this we need to be able to demonstrate the reach and impact of our message - and enable partners to see and evidence what is in it for them.

The BIG CIC is primarily for members, but it is open to the public. - what levels do we think are expected? Here is to date:

Clearly - future success will be dependent on BIG CIC publicity (which is voluntary), partner engagement and professional body engagement

What measures should we define and go for in relation to partner and professional body engagement? Ideas anyone? In addition to events, attendees, blogs with professional bodies how about:

Partner supplied public usage examples
Partner driven public exam passes - on the BIG CIC pages
No. of Listed BIG Partner services

The BIG CIC needs partners to publicise BIG CIC to grow the membership. Partners need BIG CIC to create the value opportunity. BIG CIC needs partners to generate revenue to want to publicise BIG CIC. Basically - if we can’t get Partners - then this stops, because individuals can’t shout loud enough themselves.
